Showcase showcase as a classified system

As Mr.Goodies continue to disappear I would like to avoid to buy his Classified addon.

So... Daniels stopped development (@Stuart Wright will not release the classified addon) and Mr.Goodie sometime disappear. ARGH!

What do you think in modding a Showcase category (and sub-diractory) to look like Classfieds?
Someone using it as a Classified system?

All the key important functions are missing.
IMHO with custom fields the most important features are there.
With a custom layout I think it will miss only the feedback system, but some addons are already available for it.

There are TWO Custom Layouts (blank Templates with all options and data exposed to them) that you can create your own custom item list layouts. Each Category has the ability to select its own layout type (for the Items Listing pages), so Custom View and Custom View II are available for ANY category. This is exactly what I added those two custom layout templates for. You can even COPY and PASTE one of the existing layouts (both the HTML template and CSS template) into one of the custom view layouts and then modify them (you'll need to changes things like class name prefixes, but that can be done in seconds via search and replaced). You can then format the HTML and CSS to your exact wants and needs. If you are not very good at CSS/HTML, you can hire a designer that is. Any of the Style Gurus could easily handle this.

Im not interested in creating another layout for showcase right now. There are FIVE pre configured layout types (Article View, News View, News View II, Grid View and List View) and TWO Custom layout types (Custom View and Custom View II). That is SEVEN built in layout types. XF has ONE for Threads. XFRM has ONE for Resources. XFMG has ONE for Media. I've seen a FEW adddons that have both a "grid" and a "list" type layout. Name another addon (besides any of mine) that has more than TWO pre configured layout types that can be set on a per category basis and have several layout options also be set on a per category basis?

Maybe I didn't explained well @Bob .
I wasn't asking you to do a new layout, but simply some suggestions on how to do it.

And, well, your last post gave me more info about that. I wasn't aware that SC has the two custom layout types. Wow!

Believe me, showcase is not useable as a classified system like you want or so how Mr.G´s addon is working today.
I´ve tried it without a good result and so i bought Mr.G´s
During his last outtime i ´ve already said that i don´t trust him anymore, now it´s the same situation again, i´m right.
Now i use Mr.G´s addon until the end of XF1.x and hope that someone release a new one.

ShowCase have:
Comments and Discussion attached to the items
Have Gallery (integrated with XFMG too)
Have custom fields visible on the main page and in the discussion pages.
Have the possibility to have a custom layout to make it similar to kijiji

It lacks a feedback system (but is not the scope of SC, and can be used an external one).
It lacks item "expiration time".
It lacks price on the items preview/list but I think can be solved with custom fields and CSS.
It lacks the possibility to close/archive item by author itself (@Bob can you confirm this?)

As you already tried @BT012SS can you be more specific in what SC "failed" in your case?

All the key important functions are missing.
I posted this earlier. There are several KEY important functions missing, all of which CAN NOT be handled by template edits or custom fields. They would NEED to be programmed into the addon itself as core functionality.

You could do the SAME THING with the XFRM and XFMG. Both of those addons would need the same amount of programming code as showcase to turn into a classifieds addon.

Of course! But for people that run classifieds only on threads, SC or XF RM/MG are already a good step forward as they are if trust on Mr.G is gone. ;)

@Kintaro I'm in exactly the same boat, desperate for a classifieds system and looking for anything that might be tweaked into becoming one. We'd gladly pay a few hundred bucks for one, but can't afford to custom develop it. At this point we're close enough to xf2 that I'm just going to wait and see if any of those changes would facilitate someone else making an add-on.

Yes, they are when only the members sell their classifieds privat. I´ve tried to use forum nodes, RM and SC for my users, now Mr.G´s Addon.
But if you want to use these addons like a shop for a company it isn´t possible, with no one of all addons you can find for the RM or MG.
There are many laws in germany i have to look for, like the visible taxes of each product etc.pp.
I think that there will never be a useable "Shop" addon for XF .

Well... so you need a Shop add-on and not a Classifieds add-on.
In that case I think it's better a independent shop like Woocommerce (bridged with xenforo with xenword)

Best to wait for XF2 for that:

To give an example using a new system, we're currently spending time building a generic payment framework. This is designed not only to allow different payment processors (not just PayPal) but also to be a framework to make it easy for new "purchasable" elements to be added easily (not just user upgrades). A system like this benefits the core system, but also enables new add-ons to be developed more easily. Without this, developers may discount an idea that requires payment processing because of the extra legwork required.
XenForo 2.0 Development Updates

I don't know if waiting is a good choice... payment is only a little piece of a Classified system (and for many forums an optional one)

Unluckily I don't think you will have much success. It's why I went with IPS for my pipe site, because I wanted a classifieds section and they had a decent add-on for it.

Showcase isn't (and never will be) designed to be a "classifieds" addon. It would be easier for someone to develop a Classifieds addon vs attempting to turn Showcase into one.

Yep, and creating a classified add-on of quality is fairly extensive.
ShowCase would NOT be a good fit to try and massage into it and that was the point on why I had to totally change to another script to get a decent classified add-on. ;)

Showcase can do a LOT of things... but it can't do everything. It's not designed for that - but what it is designed for it does EXTREMELY well. There is nothing comparable on the other script (IPS) I have to use on the site I needed Classifieds for.
