I've added a new AMS Article permission "Set author rating own articles". This new permission works in conjunction with the per category setting "Allow author ratings".
If a Category allows author ratings AND the viewing user has the "Set author rating own articles" OR is a moderator that has permission to edit any article, they will be able to set/unset the Author rating (on both the Add article and Edit article forms).
This makes the feature a bit more flexible in that you can enable author ratings for a category, but limit which users or user groups can actually set it.
