Not Planned [XF1] Showcase Widget - Image Gallery - New Gallery Order Option - Random

Hi,
Is it possible to add a new option into the Showcase BD Widget Framework widget called 'Showcase Image Gallery'. It currently gives options for displaying recent, top rated, most commented etc for determining the order in how things are show. I would simply like a 'random' option. This way i can show a random showcase item via the widget framework instead of following any order. Infact i think a 'random' order would be great in a few of the other showcase widgets where order is used.

IT? Showcase has 11 renderers. WHICH "IT" renderer are you asking about?

Each Render has its OWN set of Options that allows you to create customized widgets based off of those options.

You are going to have to be MORE specific on WHICH render you are talking about and what you mean by "random" as an "option" It makes no sense to have a Top Rated Widget (that is sorted by Ratings) to have a "random" option.

It was image gallery. Put it in the thread title but forgot to mention it in the post.

Referred to it as a 'widget' rather than the more correct technical term of 'renderer'

By random i mean as in instead of getting me the last x featured, last edited, last created etc showcase items, it picks it randomly from the list. For example i want to randomly show the image gallery via the widget on my frontpage from a category. I visit the first time and it will show item A..i refresh it shows item D....i refresh it shows B etc. Basically so i can cycle through my entire category randomly to the user rather than having to display all of them.

No thank you. That is something you will have to modify on your own. It would actually be best to write your own render as it will require custom fetch methods that do not exist.

Not sure I explained myself well, but it seems this feature is indeed in showcase.

I used the image gallery renderer to output ONE record on my sidebar from the featured list from a specific showcase category. Item A shows up. Create a new incognito tab and Item C shows up. So all good anyway as that is exactly what I wanted. Hopefully it cycles through all of the featured items at some point is my only concern rather than say 5 of the 30 odd featured items I have.

'FEATURED' is a special type of fetching that only returns Items that have been marked as FEATURED. Part of the fetching process for that special type is being sorted Randomly. That is the ONLY place that "random" is used for anything.

Ah I must admit I was after a Random option too for "Image Gallery Order"

Reason being I'm using Showcase partly for submitted Fanworks (user submitted fan art, images, etc.) and a random WF renderer would help . Would complement my other XFMG random WF renderers nicely.

In your opinion @Bob, this wouldn't be too difficult a custom job to get done by another developer?

A 3rd party developer should be able to easily write you a custom renderer for the [bd] widget framework (its actually pretty easy). It can be its OWN addon as its not extending Showcase, its extending the [bd] widget framework. They also don't need to use the showcase item fetching process, they could write their own fetch method(s) in the addons own model (it would actually better that way).
