Quick survivor question for basketball season.

I know I can do this under the normal option, but I'm curious if this will work with Survivor.

Looking at this season, I've got 17 different groups/sessions/weeks and 14 different teams.

If I were to select two strikes instead of one does that give participants the ability to pick a team twice?

No. You can only pick a team once regardless of whether the pool is single elimination, double elimination or triple elimination. Its part of the strategy :)

What would you do, Bob? What do you think is the best option for a 17 week season type of deal with 14 teams?

I'm counting Tues and Weds as one session, Saturday as another. Just straight up pickem with a point system is my route?

And now that I'm thinking about it...ever used one of your add-ons for a basketball tournament.

Its part of the strategy
That I got. I think we started with 4.5 pages of players...so, 80 or so, and eight weeks in we're down to 13. A handful of DNP's but I believe that was on me for not utilizing the reminders very well.

I'm not disappointed with the numbers considering the release and the season start.

I only use Survivor for NFL, so Im not sure I have the best answer lol

With Survivor, you can only have as many weeks as there are teams (since you can only pick a team once).

In a 14 team league, I'd go a max of 12 weeks, single elimination if there are BYE weeks involved (making it so that there might be teams in weeks 13 and 14 that a team isn't playing that that is the only team they could pick).

If there are no bye weeks involved, you can go 14 weeks (obviously, week 14, players would not have a choice as they would only have 1 team left, so their strategy should include saving a team that is sure to win in week 14).

In several of my NFL pools, there are only 3 players left and its only week 7! Single Elimination can wipe out 100's of players with 1 upset (the Bills knocked out over a 100,000 in one of the pools I am in).

Here's a thought and a hope combined. Perhaps a suggestion as well.

I'm going 17 weeks with one strike. However, I'm going to add a "win an extra strike" based on odds. 14 teams mean they'll have to chose correctly 65% of the time by my little system. The odds are in my favor, I believe. It'd just be a point of keeping track more closely after 10 sessions to see who was still in the season. .

I"m thinking, so forgive me, I could add three more teams at the end of session ten. Those teams will be decided by who is leading the conference at that point. Survivor Kentucky, Survivor Tennessee, Survivor Alabama. By add three teams I'm essentially giving them another strike, right? It's another game to choose from to survive.

Does that make sense?

Sounds like you are wanting to change POOL configurations and that is not doable eg, you can't change a Single Elimination Pool into a Double Elimination pool after the pool has been created (and started).

Posting this so that if OTHERS are reading that do not understand what a Survivor Pool is, it might help them better understand.

A Strike is something that a player receives when they make an incorrect pick for that week. When a player makes an incorrect pick, they get a strike. If the pool is single elimination, that player is eliminated from the pool. If the pool is double or triple elimination, they are still "alive" and move onto the next week. If they get a 2nd strike and the pool is a double elimination pool, they are eliminated, however, its the pool is a triple elimination pool, they are still alive and move onto the next week and are alive until they another wrong pick.

Adding more teams to a Sport has no effect on whether a Survivor Pool is Single, Double or Triple elimination.

Single Elimination Pool

Player A joins a single elimination survivor pool
  • Week 1 - Correct pick, moves on to week 2
  • Week 2 - Correct pick, moves on to week 3
  • Week 3 - Correct pick, moves on to week 4
  • Week 4 - Incorrect pick, receives Strike #1, is eliminated from the pool
Player B joins a single elimination survivor pool
  • Week 1 - Correct pick, moves on to week 2
  • Week 2 - Correct pick, moves on to week 3
  • Week 3 - Correct pick, moves on to week 4
  • Week 4 - Correct pick, moves on to week 5
  • Week 5 - Incorrect pick, receives Strike #1, is eliminated from the pool
Player C joins a single elimination survivor pool
  • Week 1 - Correct pick, moves on to week 2
  • Week 2 - Correct pick, moves on to week 3
  • Week 3 - Correct pick, moves on to week 4
  • Week 4 - Correct pick, moves on to week 5
  • Week 5 - Correct pick, is the only player left, is the WINNER of the pool
Double Elimination Pool

Player A joins a double elimination survivor pool
  • Week 1 - Correct pick, moves on to week 2
  • Week 2 - Incorrect pick, receives Strike #1, moves on to week 3
  • Week 3 - Correct pick, moves on to week 4
  • Week 4 - Incorrect pick, receives Strike #2, is eliminated from the pool
Player B joins a double elimination survivor pool

  • Week 2 - Correct pick, moves on to week 3
