How to use a parent category as a landing page without article listing

I have an AMS parent category that I use as a landing page.
It has:
  • custom Category content at the top
  • links/cards to two child categories
  • a longer informational block explaining the section
I do not really need the standard article listing below it, because the articles are already organized and listed inside the child categories.
Is there a native/recommended AMS way to:
  1. keep the Category content on the parent category page,
  2. but prevent the normal article list from being generated/rendered on that category page?
Alternatively, is there a recommended way to show only, for example, the 3 latest articles on that parent category page without the normal paginated article listing?

I would prefer a native AMS solution where the standard article listing is not generated/rendered on that category page at all, rather than simply hiding it with CSS. I would also prefer to avoid template edits, mainly for cleaner output and easier future upgrades.

Thanks!

Nothing native to do that. If you log into Area51 and make a suggestion to add a per category option to choose a Category Index Type (Standard or Modular), I'd be open to implementing that (which would be the similar to Modular Index option for the AMS Index page). You could then setup the Category page to display Widgets (HTML Widget(s) would work great).
