    Hi,

    In some of our showcase categories, there is no need to set it to create a thread for items created in them. (not only there is no need, but also we strongly don't want threads to be created for those categories)
    In these cases, we just Use comments system. Now, we want to let users be able to attach (one or more) files to their comments.

    NO. The comments system is designed to be minimalist and light weight. If you NEED HEAVY functionality, there is already the ability to use associated discussion threads which are designed for HEAVY functionality like having attachments per post.
