Answered Widget: Combine Article List Overview?

Hello,
I wanted to ask if there might be a way to combine the layout at the top with the list below into a single widget.

At the moment, we display the 3 latest news articles at the top, while the list below shows all news articles that have been published over time. The problem is that the same 3 articles from the top section are also displayed again in the list below. This is understandable since they are currently two separate widgets.

What I would like to achieve is a single widget that highlights the 3 newest articles in a more prominent layout at the top, while the list underneath continues with the remaining articles without duplicating those first 3 entries.

To better illustrate what I mean, I have attached a screenshot. Unfortunately, separating this by categories is not an option for us, as we need all categories to be included in both sections.

Short answer, no. The reason? Widgets can't communicate with each other, so there is no way for the Widget Definition "B" to have Id's passed into it from Widget "A"s result set (that would be piss poor design anyway and XF would never do that).

With that said, I've developed a few custom of what I call "Combined" Widget Definitions where it does what you want. If you are interested in some custom development, let me know :)
