As per title, I've implemented a new feature (Beta) for Showcase called Item view header type. This allows Admins to choose between the current header (now called Standard) and a new header called "Overlay", which is based on the new Carousel type with the same name (which are both based on Grid Block and Tile View).
This is a Showcase option driven feature. Default is the current (Standard) header, so if you want to use the new Overlay header type, you will need to set the option as part of your post upgrade steps.
Note: The viewing user must have permission to view showcase item attachments as this uses the full size image. If the viewing user does not have permission to view showcase item attachments, the standard header will be rendered instead.

A couple screenshots...

And yes, it is rendered on the associated discussion thread as well...
