How to setup games for CFB

Bob, how do you go about setting up the games for each week of the college football season? I don't mean in a technical, how-to sense, I mean as a functional strategy.

I'm a bit torn about how I should set this up since there are so many teams and the "best" games may not be known until a few days in advance. Do you load every game for every week? Do you load games for ranked teams as soon as new rankings come out? Something else?

I think this has potential to be a killer feature on my board, I'm just curious how I should be running it for something that's not as straight forward as the NFL.

What I've found to be the easiest and most fun is just going week to week with a hand full of what I determine are "games of the week".

Being that you don't have to add the entire season at once, this lets you create weeks when you need to. So for example, I create week 1 and add maybe 10-15 "games of the week" (usually based on the College Rankings). I don't just always use the Top 10 or Top 15 ranked teams (specially if #6 Oregon is playing some low level FCS team from the east cost, but might if they are playing an FCS Powerhouse like Montana or Eastern Washington). One week I might only have 5 games to pick, another I might have 20. I also let my members suggest "games of the week" (which is another fun aspect).

I USED to do the Top 25 (all games being played by the Top 25 ranked teams), but that can be a bit much to manage, so I just went with a smaller set of games (10-15) and my members liked that much better (and it generated more comments).

I do the same with sports like NBA, MLB, NHL that have A LOT of games, and what I do is just have "Games of the week", and add some of the better match ups within that week time frame).

I'd recommend starting out small and expanding it vs trying to over do it to start out with.

Hope that helps?

Is there a way to do pools for partial seasons? Or would I just create a separate entry for the "season" and use that for the pool?

Im not sure what you are asking, can you try and word it differently and maybe gives some examples?

You can start a Pool at ANY point of a season and it will start out where the current week of the season is at... eg, We create MID SEASON Survivor pools that start at week 9 (you have to wait until week 8 is complete before starting the pool so that the pool starts at week 9). Is that what you are asking?

Yeah, basically split the season into smaller segments. So a pool for weeks 1-8 and then a new pool for weeks 9-16. Something like that. I think you've answered my question though.

Yes, you can do that with ONE season.

You can create Pool 1 for weeks 1-8, then set the Pool Status to FINAL after week 8 has been completed. Then create Pool 2 after Week 8 has locked.
