is possibile to display custom fields (and their value) on the homepage layout, too?

Yes. When creating a custom field, one of the secondary display locations is display on lists. Certain layouts then have the option to display custom fields or not (Article View, News View and News View II as well as the 2 custom views). Grid View and List View do not as neither of those layouts is designed to display EXTRA data.
