UBS
We are currently evaluating UBS as a replacement for vBulletin 4 Blog for one of our forums.

vBulletin 4 blog allowed users to set permissions for
  • Ignored Users
  • Followed Users
  • Other logged in Users
  • Guests
to
  • View the blog
  • Comment on blog entries
on a per blog basis - they could also set an individual blog entry as private which allowed only followed users (+ mods) to view this specific blog entry.

XFMG has somewhat similar options for albums:

Is smth. like this also possible with UBS?

Yes, there is currently a low level Private Blog and Private Blog Entries feature in UBS.

In the More options dropdown of a given Blog, you will see a Set blog private link (if you have appropriate permissions and are the Blog Owner or Staff)

Clicking on the link will launch a confirmation overlay...

When a Blog is Private, [Private] is added to the Title as well as a well as a block status message to remind those that can view the blog, that is is indeed private.

When a Blog is Private, all Blog Entries within that Blog are also considered private (even tho they are not marked as private).

When a Blog is Private, the link in the more options dropdown changes to "Set blog publically viewable".

Blog Entries themselves can also be set to Private. This way you can have a Public Blog with Private Entries.

Hope that all makes sense?

Yes, but it unfortunately doesn't really answer my question (or I am misunderstanding your answer).

So maybe I can rephrase my question:
How can a User configure his blog so only followed users (or like in XFMG: Only users explicity specified by the blog owner) can view the blog (or maybe only a specific blog entry) and comment without also being a contributor / co-owner?

The title of this thread is a question

Is it possible to have private blogs / blog entries?

My answer was to that question and what UBS currently has available in terms of Private Blogs and Private Blog Entries.

Yes, it is possible to have both Private Blogs and Private Blog Entries in UBS.

I was in the process of replying to your second question about Privacy Controls like vB Blog and XFMG and got interrupted at work (sorry, Job comes first).

Is smth. like this also possible with UBS?
No, there are currently no "Privacy Controls" similar to what vB Blogs has and what both XF (user profiles) and XFMG (albums) have.

With that said, there is a suggestion posted by a Premium license holder (at my private support site where I provide advanced support for Premium license holders) for Blog and Blog Entry privacy controls similar to XFMG. It is an open suggestion with quite a bit of input/discussion, but not that many upvotes.

Feel free to post a suggestion here (I'll merge them when I import the other support site with this one).

I've edited the title so it is (hopefully) a bit more precise, but the first post message text IMHO already made it pretty clear what the question was about.

Thanks for confirming that I did not miss anything :)

I can do that, but if there isn't much interest in such a feature anyway that would probably just waste time?

This would give UBS Standard license holders a chance to provide input and upvotes, so I think it would be worth it :)

Also, I am interested and that counts more than anything lol
