Not Possible [XF1] Custom showcase item fields grouped by category

I'm creating a few categories that need their own item fields, etc. However, my custom item field list (Sidebar Module) is going to be quite large and it would be nice if they could be grouped either by category or into their own group like thread prefixes are.

They are already grouped by the fields PARENT (by display location). Location is SINGULAR (and is the PARENT) so it can be used to "GROUP". Fields are not "owned" by a singular category (they can be associated with multiple categories), so they can't be "grouped".

Grouped by Location is the SAME as what Prefixes are doing by having a singular parent prefix group.

btw, WHICH "list" are you referring to? The reason I ask is a lot of people that I talk to are not aware of the ability to manage fields via Category Management.

Admin CP >> Applications >> Showcase >> Showcase Item Fields

This interface area is for managing the Fields themselves (initial creating and editing when some sort of change is needed). You don't need to come to this area to ADD/REMOVE a field to a Category. That can be handled via Category Management 'Custom Field Options' as shown in the next image below.

I think a lot of people don't even know that this exists. This is designed to manage fields for a specific category. When you create a category, you are able to choose the fields you want right from this list without having to go to the Field Management. Same with editing a Category (quickly enable/disable any field). I've even added details like the type of field it is and the field name to help identify them. They are broke out by Display area (important) as well as the ORDER that they will be displayed in that area. It will also tell you if the field is Required (in RED so it sticks out). I might be able to ADD some more information to this area that might help (you'd have to tell me what tho)

I wasn't aware you could manage them via the categories, thanks for pointing that out :) That will make it much easier.

It's this list. If you have a few grouped in, say, the sidebar but they are for different categories.

Ya, that list is not designed for managing fields in specific categories. Its simply a listing grouped by its parent (which is location). Its a lot easier to manage them via category management (which I have plans to enhance even more)
