Marked as awaiting feedback for a detailed explanation. I need to know the steps you took in order to try and reproduce.

on a side note, if you are comfortable with file edits. I can show you a little trick that will "rebuild" the counts. Inbox me if you are interested.

I had a top level category called 'General' with items in it.
I renamed this category to 'Road' and then created 5 x sub-categories underneath it.
I then went into everyone of the items within 'Road' (ex General) category, and edited them and changed them to an appropriate sub-category (a couple went into a different top-level category instead).
Then issue as per screenshot - i) Road category total items is not the sum of sub-categories, and ii) quick stats at the top, total items calc is not correct.

OK, so it's seems the Quick Stats box at the top is for the category you are within only, not the whole ShowCase. Hence why I thought the top Quick Stats was incorrect, when it actually is correct for the category being viewed.

And perhaps the top level category count is correct, and I've missed some items that are still in the top level. But how do I check? I cannot see how to only find items in a toplevel category without it also showing the items in its sub categories too.

The way the counts are set up is that the Parent includes all childeren. There are no "counts" that are stored just for the category itself. The only category that would be like that would be one without any childeren. When I looked at your site yesterday, it seemed like the total count was off (off by 10 if I remember correctly). One way to find out is to force a rebuild of the category cache (which you can inbox me about). I'll be adding this option in a later version (or maybe even running it as a daily cron).

Did you ever get a chance to confirm if your counts were off?

ok, thanks for confirming. I'll be adding in a rebuild category count functionality (either manual rebuild or via daily cron clean up).
