    Hi there,

Any idea what might be causing this, please? No rush as it's just a test site for now.

    Thanks!

I think it is something with the htaccess. Almost postive, something isn't being allowed to grab the stocks. Bob will know for certain, I am almost positive I had this same issue before though.

    allow_url_fopen = On
needs to be set in php.ini

Thanks - I'll need to create a php.ini file, though. Into which folder should input it, please?

php.ini is part of your server config. Your host will have to do it for you (unless you have a dedicated or VPS that you manage yourself). Just put a ticket it and have then enable allow_url_fopen = On and you will be all set :)

Oh man. I have a feeling that it's not going to be that easy with 1&1. I'll give it a try, though...

    Thanks!

Shouldn't be bad... they should be able to enable it just for your domain. Just be up front with them and let them know why you need it enabled.

Cheers. If they're unable to help, is there something that I could set within .htaccess, as stewart1champ suggests above?

    Thanks again!

That all depends on how they have the server set up. Usually, if they won't enable something like that, they also won't have it setup to be able to change variables via .htaccess either. Im looking into alternative feed retrieval methods as well (like CURL).

Thanks, Bob. I'm waiting to hear back from 1&1, but in case they can't help, which folder should I drop the php.ini into, please? As far as I understand it, it only controls the folder into which it is dropped?

From reading the post you quoted above, might there be some security implications with running this?

Sorry for so many questions, and thanks again for all your help.

you'd drop it in xenforo forum root folder (the one with admin.php, admindav.php, cron.php, css.php etc... )

There is NO security implications running this addon.

Of course; I didn't mean to imply that the add-on was unsafe. I've bought all three and really appreciate them. The wording in the solution that you quoted made me jump a little, that's all!

Its ok, just reassuring you that the Addon itself is safe using the file function ;)
